Founded in 2011, Haandholdt is a non-profit organization dedicated to the support and production of artworks made for mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets. As of 2016, the Haandholdt project is continued by DIAS Digital Interactive Art Space.
We believe the many traditions of visual art can contribute to our understanding of the specific aesthetic and political implications of mobile devices, and we seek to encourage the development of conceptual and formal experimentation with these new technological tools.
Today, mobile devices have become an integrated part of everyday life, changing the ways in which we perceive ourselves and interact with the world around us. Providing us with information and data from the internet, these electronics influence social, private and political aspects of our lives. By producing and promoting art projects for the mobile devices, Haandholdt seeks to encourage an inquisitive and critical exploration of art, technology and society.
Through open calls, direct invitation and submissions, Haandholdt brings together artists and programmers and help them realise their ideas. In dialogue with the members of Haandholdt, artists work to develop their ideas in an intersection of technology, art and culture. We hope that technology might inspire and inform the creation of artworks that may not previously have been imagined or produced.
